All You Need To Know About Supplements

Vitamin B12

Supplementing with vitamin B12 can  ward off fatigue. It also helps keep your nerves and red blood cells working optimally, helps maintain a healthy digestive system, and promotes healthy skin, hair and nails. To top it off, Vitamin B12 has been shown to help battle breast, colon and lung cancer. The recommended daily allowance (RDA) for Vitamin B12 is 2.4 micrograms per day.

DHEA, or dehydroepiandrosterone, is a steroid hormone secreted by the adrenal glands. As we age, our bodies produce less of this vital hormone, leading to possible loss of bone density, aching joints, depression, fatigue and decreased libido.  Those with DHEA deficiency would definitely benefit from supplementation. It is wise to get your hormone levels tested first, however, to determine whether you are actually lacking. If you are, your doctor will help you to determine the appropriate supplementation levels.

Vitamin C

The human body is unable to manufacture Vitamin C – yet, it is vital for the healthy functioning of the skin, teeth, bones and ligaments. Vitamin C is also an important link in the energy production process, and a powerful antioxidant that helps prevent heart disease by minimizing the effect of free radicals on artery walls. Of course, Vitamin C can also reduce the impact and duration of common cold symptoms. The RDA for Vitamin C is  1,000-2,000 milligrams.

Green Tea Extract

The extract of green tea leaves is rich in antioxidants, mainly in the form of green tea polyphenols and catechins, as well as caffeine, all of which are believed to aid fat loss by inducing thermogenesis, stimulating fat oxidation and increasing metabolism. Green tea extract is widely available as a drink and in capsule form. Simply taking it in the form of a cup of green tea makes the most sense, since it will not only allow you to take in about 50 mg of caffeine and 100 mg of polyphenol, it also offers hydration in the form of water. And, if you can replace your daily mocachino with green tea, you’ll be sparing hundreds of calories in the process.
